Often referred to as a “vocal powerhouse”, Bec Laughton is Brisbane's blue-eyed soul singer. The firey songstress is known for her uninhibited lyricism, irresistible grooves and intoxicating stage presence.
Trained in jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and with a heart for soul music, this young songbird brings to life music of old with her own quirky fresh touch.
Nominated and highly commended 4 times for the Q Song awards across the last 2 years, Bec took out the winning song for her track 'Holy Love'. It then featured on ABC radio. This song along with 'Sensation' which was highly commended, appear on her Debut EP.
October 2010 will see the release of her Debut EP “At First Sight” recorded at 301 Byron Bay with Producer/Engineer Anthony Lycenko (Pete Murray, Cold Chisel, George). Also involved in the production and featuring on the song 'Loop de Loop' are the Spacifix, award winning funk/soul/reggae band from New Zealand.
The Bec Laughton Suite displays not only a depth of incredible talent but also an array of culture including musicians from Fiji, Peru, Tonga, India, South Africa, New Zealand and Torres Strait Islands.
Bec has featured at numerous festivals including the Woodford Folk Festival, the Dreaming Festival, the Jumpers & Jazz Festival, the Noosa Jazz Festival and has supported international R&B act Zhane`at Psycho Remedy. She has performed for the Queensland Orchestra and featured in Harvest Rain Theatre Company's 25th anniversary celebrations at QPAC backed by a 50 piece orchestra and 80 voice choir.
With a powerful voice that doesn't seem to match her small stature or fair complexion Bec enjoys being not what she appears “At First Sight”.
