Latin Vibe
Biography
Latin Vibe are a group primarily playing Afro-Cuban inspired arrangements of classic jazz standards led by Australian vibist Dave Kemp. The music is a highly inventive mix of well crafted composition, authentic Cuban rhythmic styles and jazz improvisation of the highest level featuring some of Australia’s most in demand musicians. Latin Vibe have appeared at many festivals and venues including the Brisbane Festival, the Valley Jazz Festival and in the famous Spiegeltent. The group is available as a trio (vibes, bass and percussion), a quartet with added drums, a quintet with added horn or through to a bigger band with full horn section.
Dave Kemp is one of Australia's foremost vibists and percussionists having studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston USA. A small snapshot of his performances in 2010 involve as a sideman with Dianna Krall, James Morrison and David Campbell along with a national tour with Patrizio Buanne (Italy). He has also toured internationally performing in Paris, London, Salzburg and Boston. He is available as a solo artist, a featured guest with local rhythm section or can provide an ensemble of consumate jazz artists for festivals, events and recordings. He is also a lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the Queensland University of Technology in jazz vibes, percussion and pedagogy – all areas for which he can provide masterclasses and clinics at a university level. Recent engagements in this area were as adjudicator and vibes masterclass presenter at the Australian Percussion Esteddfod for Optimum Percussion (Sydney).
